New data reveals alarming Victorian vaping trends
New data reveals an alarming spike in vaping in Victoria.
A Cancer Council Victoria report has found eighteen to 30-year-olds now account for more than half of all e-cigarette users in the state.
There’s been an almost five-fold increase in the number of people who did not smoke but now vape.
The Victorian Smoking and Health Survey reveals the number of young women (18-24) using e-cigarettes has surged from 2.8 per cent in 2018-19 to 15.2 per cent in 2022.
Quit Victoria director, Dr Sarah White, says there are fears e-cigarettes may be causing even more harm than regular cigarettes.
“If you smoke, when you finish a cigarette and you’re done, and you might look in the pack and see ‘I’ve got three more, I’ll hold off, I’ll wait’, but you can vape for hours on end,” she told Ross and Russel.
“It’s just as, if not possibly more addictive to give up.”
