New dietary recommendations turn conventional diet wisdom on its head
A new report is arguing for an ‘urgent’ overhaul of dietary guidelines.
The UK’s National Obesity Forum has released a report, with signatories from around the world, that turns our understanding of a healthy diet upside down.
Some of its key points include:
- Eating fat doesn’t make you fat.
- Full-fat dairy protects you from heart disease, not cause it.
- Stop counting calories.
- Snacking makes you fat.
- The ideal amount of sugar is ZERO.
Nutritionist Christine Cronau told Neil Mitchell we had dietary guidelines all wrong, and they need to be corrected.
‘The low-fat thing was supposed to make us slim and healthy, and it’s done the opposite,’ Ms Cronau said.
