The new Mayor of Nillumbik has revealed he plans to abandon a controversial environmental overlay proposal.

Councillor Peter Clarke also plans on cutting his own salary and won’t be using the mayoral car.

‘Maybe it’s a good trend to set?’ he told Tom Elliott on Thursday.

Only one Nillumbik councillor survived the recent election.

‘It’s pretty clear people wanted change,’ Mr Clarke said.
