New planning controls set to re-shape Melbourne’s skyline
New planning controls are set to reshape Melbourne’s city skyline.
The rules severely restrict the floor area of developments which then sets new height restrictions for new buildings
State Planning Richard Wynne told 3AW Breakfast the new controls would allow developers to build to a certain height, and if they wanted to build higher they must provide a contribution back to the city such as a park, laneway or public art.
‘Frankly the housing densities in some parts of the city are greater than New York or Hong Kong,’ the Minister said.
‘We can do better.’
