A new study has revealed five per cent of the global population bite their nails.

Health and community psychologist, Dr Marny Lishman, says the behaviour is often a go-to whenever a person is stressed or bored.

“But nail biting, in particular normally begins in childhood, and it’s not really that clear why someone initially develops these types of habits, but once it starts it can be difficult to manage,” she told Tom Elliott.
