A proposed new tram line would link Monash University and Chadstone.

The Andrews Government will allocate $3 million toward the planning process for the 18km line in the next budget.

The line would run from Caulfield to Rowville, and would hopefully help reduce traffic congestion.

Melbourne University urban planning lecturer Crystal Legacy said light rail had “significant potential” in the area.

But she told Ross and John they should also consider the benefits of a train line.

“Good planning should involve all scenarios,” she said.
