Nick Kyrgios under fire for ‘lowest form’ Wimbledon act
Nick Kyrgios admits he spat at spectators in a vile end to his first round Wimbledon match.
The Australian beat British wildcard Paul Jubb 3-6 6-1 7-5 6-7 7-5, but his victory has been overshadowed by his behaviour during the match.
Nine News sports reporter at Wimbledon, Tony Jones, says Kyrgios’ behaviour was “the lowest form”.
“He’s not backing away from that, by the way, because at his actual media conference it was put to him … he said ‘Yes, yes I did’,” he told Stephen Quartermain and Elise Elliott, filling in for Ross and Russel.
“He’s quite upfront with the fact he was spitting in the direction of those hecklers.”
Jones says Kyrgios “overstepped the mark” by spitting, and he also expects the Aussie to cop criticism from older tennis fans.
“I think he’s going to cop a fair bit of heat from some senior citizens, because he thinks now that the linespeople are too old, and there was one linesman who he believes is about 80 years of age, and he says the eyesight just isn’t up to it,” Jones said.
“He’ll never, ever, ever concede that he’s done something wrong.”
