A Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) director says nobody the commission invited to respond to questions over allegations Matthew Guy and his former chief of staff attempted to circumvent political donation laws provided satisfactory answers to its questions.

The VEC has referred its Matthew Guy and Mitch Catlin investigation to the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) for further investigation.

Director Communication and Engagement at the VEC, Sue Lang, says “all the key players in that initial issue were invited to respond to questions”.

“We received no satisfactory response from anybody,” she told Neil Mitchell.

Neil Mitchell: “Well that does put Matthew Guy into it because he was one of them – you would have gone to him.”

Sue Lang: “And there you are, it’s over to IBAC for further investigation.”

But Matthew Guy denies he refused to answer questions.

“What I’ve been requested of I’ve provided,” he told reporters at a press conference today.
