No seats have changed hands in Saturday’s by-elections.

Labor has retained the marginal seats of Braddon (Tasmania) and Longman (Queensland), as well the seats of Perth and Fremantle in WA.

Centre Alliance candidate Rebekha Sharkie has retained the South Australian seat of Mayo.

Five seats headed to the polls on Saturday after their members resigned, four of whom were caught up in the citizenship scandal.

The by-elections had been framed as the battleground for the two major parties to test their policies ahead of a general election. The strong results for Labor are expected to end speculation about Bill Shorten’s future as leader.
