‘Nobody knows’: Pressing questions over plan for Victorian schools
The state government is encouraging Victorian children to take two rapid antigen tests a week as part of a plan to keep schools open as the Omicron wave continues.
Bu it’s unclear where the RATs will come from, and whether parents or schools will be responsible for administering them.
Former principal and education and school leadership expert, Adam Voigt, says “nobody knows where they’re coming from”.
“We need a lot of clarity around what is the plan to bring these kids back to school because we’re only a couple of weeks away,” he told Ross and Russel.
Mr Voight says even if the return to on-site learning on January 31 proceeds as planned, it’s likely “there will be home-schooling without it being across the board”.
“I think a lot of schools are going to have trouble staying open, mainly because they’re just not going to have enough teachers,” he said.
