Following the major supermarkets move to paper bags, recycling expert Trevor Thorton, says he ensures he brings plastic bags to the supermarket.

“Not a fan of these bags at all … I tend to alternate between the two major supermarkets to better my choice, and I’ve used paper bags from both, and both have failed,” he told Neil Mitchell.

Mr Thorton also said paper bags were generally not as good as plastic bags for the environment.

“That’s sort of assuming the plastic bags have been used, and they’ve been used multiple times, can be recycled,” he said.

Listener Sue sent through a photo to Neil after her KFC paper bag fell apart.

“I went to get out of the car, I picked up the bag, the chicken had just about fallen out of the bag, I had oil all over my leg,” she said.
