‘Not fit for purpose’: Australian PM’s sobering comments on energy grid
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the country’s energy system is “not fit for purpose” as thousands of Victorian remain without power.
The state is undergoing a second day of severe weather in the last fortnight, with high temperatues and strong winds causing havoc.
When quizzed by Jacqui Felgate on the state of the energy grid, Mr Albanese said it was crucial changes were made to keep pace with modern demands.

“We need to make sure we get the (energy) system right so we have energy security,” he told 3AW.
“One of the things I was briefed on not just when I came to office but beforehand was essentially that our energy grid isn’t fit for purpose for the 21st century.”
