‘Not that radical’: Transport union pushes for supply chain to pay for fuel
Australian truck drivers are the latest victims of the growing fuel scarcity, but are taking action to stop the impending costs.
In an application put before the Fair Work Commission, the Transport Workers Union suggests that transport clients start footing the bill for fuel to save drivers and trucking businesses from facing huge costs at the end of the month.
Press PLAY to hear how the proposal will help truckies
Speaking with 3AW Mornings host Tom Elliott, Transport Workers Union national secretary Michael Kaine said that Australia cannot allow the wheels of transport to stop.
“We’ve got to make sure that those at the top of the supply chain do what they always do, and that is pay for the cost of transport. It’s not actually that radical a proposal, but it’s really important because transport is on the cusp of failure,” Kaine said.
The TWU suggests that, if approved, the proposal should be implemented immediately.
