‘Now or never’ for North Melbourne: Dwayne Russell

Sportsday

Having started the season with six straight wins, Dwayne Russell believes the Kangaroos’ time to win a premiership is now.

In the next three weeks, North Melbourne play St Kilda, Essendon and Carlton, which they will go in as favourites for each.

An older playing list means this year is ‘the best chance’ they have to win a flag in this era, Russell said on Sports Today.

‘This is the year North fans… If you’re 9 and zip, the flag’s yours to lose,’ he said.

‘Now’s the time, now has to be the time.

‘You win it now or you may not win it for another 20.’

Drew Petrie, Brent Harvey and Jarrad Waite are a few of North Melbourne’s players nearing the end, but each are producing some of their best football when the ball is bounced.

Waite has 22 goals from the first six rounds, which is the third most in the AFL behind Tom Lynch (GCS) and Lance Franklin.

Sunday’s match against the Saints will be Drew Petrie’s 300th career game.
