Obesity experts wage war on the Slurpee
Obesity experts are waging war on the Slurpee, in a new effort to reduce Australia’s bulging waistline.
Consumers are being warned that by sipping on a frozen drink, they’re also gulping down toxic fat and increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.
Dietician Alison McAleese told 3AW Breakfast a single cup can contain more than 20 teaspoons of sugar.
“That’s three days worth,” she said.
“We were really alarmed to learn just how much sugar is in these frozen drinks.”
She suggested drinking chilled water as an alternative.
