The ombudsman says it’s time to move on from the Red Shirts scandal after her report found there was no evidence to justify further investigation by Victoria Police.

In the lead-up to the 2014 election, the Labor Party spent almost $400,000 of taxpayer money for casual electorate officers to campaign in some marginal seats.

Ombudsman Deborah Glass said she did not find any significant differences in this investigation compared to the 2018 investigation.

The Premier said the latest report spoke for itself.

“Staff were engaged in activity, in error, the money was paid back and I’ll refer you to the report,” the Premier told reporters on Thursday.

Neil Mitchell asked Deborah Glass whether “error” was the right term to be using in regards to the matter.

“I think I said a bit more than that,” Ms Glass said.

But she said it was time to end the investigation.
