A man is dead after a major crash involving a truck, cars and pedestrians at Footscray.

The force of the crash caused an explosion that blew out windows of neighbouring properties and left debris strewn across the busy intersection at Gordon and Barkley streets.

Paramedics assessed another six people at scene. One woman is stilled listed as injured.

At least two power lines have been brought to ground.

David, who narrowly missed the explosion while driving, described the scene to Darren James on 3AW Afternoons as looking like a ‘war zone’.

A caller told Darren James her husband described a scene of ‘carnage’.
