One person killed, several injured, as truck and cars collide on Princes Freeway
LATEST: Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage of the fatal crash in Point Cook to come forward.
Seven vehicles and 14 people were involved in the crash on the Princes Freeway which sparked traffic gridlock across Melbourne.
The smash happened outbound at Point Cook, at Palmers Road, shortly before 3pm on Thursday afternoon.
A 28-year-old Hoppers Crossing man died and his passenger, a 31-year-old woman, was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
Police are calling on any witnesses. particularly anyone with dashcam footage, to come forward as they investigate what caused the crash.
