Online retailers force Myer into early winter sale

Myer is starting to discount its winter stock before the season even begins.

The department store will begin its winter sale tomorrow, May 30.

Former CEO of Myer Bernie Brooks told Tom Elliott it is a slightly unusual move for the company.

“It normally kicks off a bit later in June so it’s a few weeks early,” Mr Brooks said.

“But it’s somewhat symptomatic of what’s happening in the industry with online competitors and a multitude of international retailers.

“There’s no doubt major retailers like Myer and David Jones are struggling and therefore they’re moving to sell quick.”
