The state opposition says millions of dollars are being wasted tipping sand onto eroding beaches that’s being washed away in just a few years.

They’re committing $10 million to coming up with a “comprehensive plan” to combat the issue.

“Frankly, at the moment, nothing is being done about it and that’s not good enough,” James Newbury, Shadow Minister for Bay Protection, told Neil Mitchell.

“Unfortunately, a lot of councils are spending millions on tipping sand onto some of these beaches – it’s just happened at Brighton beach – within a couple of years, that couple of million dollars of sand is gone,”

“We can’t just have fixes where we are tipping millions of dollars of sand out there which just gets washed away.

“We need proper fixes and this is about having a comprehensive plan to do so.”
