Organ donors who registered years ago are being urged to check they’re still listed as donors.

CEO of the Organ and Tissue Authority, Lucinda Barry, says there were “some glitches” when transferring organ donor data from the old licence registration system to the current system.

“We’ve asked people to check because in the transition from driver’s licences many years ago, which is probably the way you registered all those years ago, some of those may not have come across. So we call on people to check,” she told Neil Mitchell.

Nationally, 36 per cent of people are registered as organ donors, but in Victoria that figure is only 23 per cent.

Ms Barry says there’s a myth that signing up is difficult, but it only takes a minute to do so.
