An Oakleigh business owner is ‘very concerned’ a Monash council proposal threatens the future of the suburb.

The council proposes the removal of 14 car spaces and four loading spaces in a bid to enhance the footpaths on Portman Street between Eaton Mall and Oakleigh Station.

“It’s gonna be drastic … we rely on those loading zones for receiving and dispatching stock and orders, and that’s not just us, that’s all the businesses in the street, or the majority of them.” Niko’s Cakes owner, Yianni Poupouzas, told Neil Mitchell.

Press PLAY to hear what impacts the proposals will have on Oakleigh

Mr Poupouzas believes the council is out of touch with their constituents and are unaware of how unhappy locals are.

“We know the area best.”
