The ‘cowboy’ developers responsible for the unlawful demolition of an iconic Carlton pub have come under fire from the Victorian Government.

It’s led to calls for harsher penalties for developers who ignore heritage controls.

The Corkman Irish pub, built in 1857 and formerly known as the Carlton Inn, was knocked down at the weekend.

Those responsible did not have a permit.

The state government is furious.

‘This is a complete outrage,’ planning minister Richard Wynne told Ross and John.

‘The hotel was 159 years old and two cowboys come along, ignore all of the demolition and planning permit rules ? of which they’ve got none ? and knock the place over.’
