The Albanese government has been slammed over “outrageous” proposed laws to combat misinformation and disinformation.

It would empower the Australian Communications and Media Authority to fine social media giants millions of dollars for content it deems to be misinformation, or harmful. The government would be exempt from the legislation.

“It should be ripped up and put in the bin,” David Coleman, opposition communications spokesman, told Tom Elliott.
