A backup computer system for Victoria’s triple-zero service which is already two and a half years overdue is unlikely to be ready until 2024.

Currently, when the computer dispatch system for the Emergeny Services Telecommunicatons Authority (ESTA) crashes, call takers are forced to revert to notes written on paper cards.

Secretary of the Victorian Ambulance Union, Danny Hill, says an upgrade is “desperately needed”, and the cause of the hold up is unknown.

Press PLAY below to hear why the backup is so desperately needed

“It looks like it’s not happening until next year … it needs to be sped up,” he told Ross and Russel.
