P-plate driver crashes into pole in Melbourne’s east

Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash in Nunawading involving a 21-year-old probationary driver and a 19-year-old passenger.

At about 6:40am yesterday morning, the probationary driver was allegedly seen driving a grey Toyota Corolla erratically along Eastern Freeway before taking the Springvale Road off-ramp exit when he crashed into a pole.

The driver and passenger were both taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police are investigating whether alcohol was a factor.
