Paediatric Endocrinologist at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Dr Jeff Kao, has claimed himself and his colleagues are advocating for a database to be set up to track a concerning trend in type 2 diabetes in children nationally.

The Australian has reported doctors have issued an urgent plea for national intervention to stem the rising tide of type 2 diabetes diagnoses in children and young people.

“In Victoria, we don’t have the data, a really good routinely collected data, but I can tell you it has increased,” Dr Kao told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Tom Elliott.
