Parents stung by ‘dishonest’ council parking move
More than a dozen parents have been stung by a ‘dishonest’ council move in Melbourne’s east.
Several junior football games are played at Lynden Park in Camberwell every weekend during the season, with parents and spectators parking along the roadside.
But more than a dozen people from one football club alone were recently shocked to receive $300 fines for parking by the ground in a single day.
Saul told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell, it isn’t clear that vehicles can’t park there.
“I don’t understand, as a reasonable person, how I’m expected to know I can’t park my car there,” he said.

The council mailed out the fines, rather than placing them on vehicle windscreens, in a move Saul has labelled “pretty dishonest”.
“If they put the tickets on the dashboard I think it would be a little bit obvious that you can’t park there, but because the intention is clearly to revenue raise and fine people they take a photo of your car and then send you the photo as a fine in the mail, so you have no awareness, and neither does anyone else, that you’ve been fined for parking in that spot.”
Saul wrote to Booroondara Council requesting the fine be overturned, but his request was denied. He intends to take his case to the Magistrates Court.
