Parkmore Primary students deliver handmade cards to retirement village residents

Students from a primary school in Melbourne’s outer east have spend the day spreading Christmas cheer and putting smiles on faces.

Grade Five students from Parkmore Primary played “Santa to a Senior” and delivered handmade Christmas cards to the residents of Forest Hills retirement village.

“I was fortunate enough to go to something like this a few years ago and I must say, it brought tears to my eyes,” Nick McCallum said.

Teacher Adrienne Baucke told Nick the students were given 140 blank cards to give to the residents.

“They each wrote a card to a senior person, someone they didn’t know, they just understood it was someone who was going to be alone at Christmas, maybe without any family,” she said.

“It was just beautiful.

“They were really excited to see the children.”

Student Tiana Gouldson told she felt “really great” after seeing the residents.

“I started handing out cards, they were very excited to see us,” Tiana said.

“At the end they even sang a song to us.

“We can show kindness and have gratitude for what we have.”
