AFL star Patrick Dangerfield is being hailed as a hero after rescuing a child from the water on Victoria’s surf coast.

The Geelong Cats star was on the beach at Moggs Creek with his family yesterday when he was alerted by another beachgoer about an 11-year-old girl and two adults stuck in a rip.

He took a surfboard out into the rough surf, placing the 11-year-old on his board and paddling her back to shore.

Fairhaven lifeguards attended on jet skis a short time later and brought the two adults to shore.

The girl was assessed by paramedics at the scene, and was given the all clear.
