Patrick Dangerfield won’t have to present this year’s Brownlow Medal if he doesn’t want to, says Gillon McLachlan.

The AFL’s chief executive said on 3AW the league would be “sensible” about the matter.

Dangerfield, the short-priced favourite to win the medal this season, was this week ruled ineligible due to suspension.

Traditionally, the winner from the year previous presents the medal to the new winner.

Dangerfield won it last season.

It could create an awkward moment on Brownlow night if Dangerfield polls the most votes.

“We certainly don’t want to make him feel uncomfortable,” McLachlan said.
