Paul Chapman says he warned Brendon Goddard about criticism in book
Paul Chapman has revealed he warned Brendon Goddard about controversial comments in his new book which were critical of the Essendon star.
The AFL world was sent into a spin at the weekend when an extract from Chapman’s book, Chappy: believe it or not, accused Goddard of being self-centred and demonstrative.
Chapman told 3AW he spoke to his former teammate about the comments before the book was published.
‘I warned him of it,’ the former Geelong star said on Sports Today.
‘I told him that 90 per cent of what I was going to say was positive and so it should be.
‘Brendon’s a great leader and the work that he does and how hard he trains and the people that he drags along with him is amazing ? probably the best at the club.
‘His expectations of his teammates are massive, too.
‘He has come from a footy club that knows what it takes to play in grand finals, so in that respect it was awesome to play with ‘BJ’.
‘But I just found sometimes on the footy field with things that he did … he undid all his good work.’
