The excuses for some of New Zealand’s best soccer players are over.

Andrew Scott Howman, general counsel for New Zealand Professional Footballers’ Association (NZPFA), told Tom Elliott the newly-signed pay deal means that pay parity has been achieved and there is “no reason” why the Football Ferns – New Zealand’s women’s national team – can’t perform to the best of their ability.

“The quality of your travel and the quality of your experience when you travel halfway across the world actually has a major affect on your ability to perform at the top level,” Howman said on 3AW Drive.

“You don’t want as a coach is players coming up with excuse for why they didn’t play well.

“Our men get a daily rate when they play football for their country and now our women will get the same pay.”
