PayWave cards need to be treated like cash: Commissioner

Tom Elliott

Victoria’s Chief Police Commissioner has sent out a warning to treat PayWave cards like cash.

Commissioner Graham Ashton told Neil Mitchell credit cards have changed and need to be treated accordingly.

‘That tap-and-go card ? that’s cash,’ Mr Ashton said on Wednesday.

‘You wouldn’t leave cash in your car, but someone will leave a credit card. It happens every day.’

Mr Ashton also spoke of the increasing prevalence of mobile phone use while driving.

‘You’ve only got to take your eyes off the road for just a few seconds and the results can be lethal.’
