A newly released report has found that support for the Australian National Anthem is on the rise.

A survey conducted by the Institute for Public Affairs has found that Aussies are overwhelmingly backing the anthem being sung more frequently.

Speaking with Tom Elliott, Director of Research at the Institute of Public Affairs, Morgan Begg, said that he fails to understand why a small percentage of those who disagree can have such an impact.

Press PLAY to hear why the support is growing

“When you ask everyday Australians, they’re overwhelmingly supportive of retaining the anthem and they believe it unites us, which is so interesting that it’s actually consistent with Australian opinions on other key national symbols,” Begg said.

The growth in the anthem’s popularity has so far been linked to a desire to social cohesion and community.
