‘People are nervous’: Russian-backed rebels and Ukrainians accuse each other of opening fire
There are fears the Ukraine-Russia conflict is escalating with Russian-backed rebels and Ukrainian forces accusing each other of firing across the ceasefire line in eastern Ukraine.
It’s not clear how serious the incidents were, but there are concerns Russia could use alleged violations of the ceasefire as justification for war.
Executive director and journalist at Hromadske Radio in Ukraine, Kyrylo Loukerenko, says “many people are nervous”.
“Especially, I would say, the senior generation of Ukrainians are worried,” he told Ross and Russel.
Mr Loukerenko says Ukraine needs help from foreign powers.
“Military assistance is very important, but also Ukrainians need economical and financial support, Ukraine needs long-term investment,” he said.
“I know it may sound strange that a country under attack looks for investment but this is actually, I hope, not a hot war but some kind of hybrid war.
“When you fight a hybrid war you need all means to survive, to sustain your defence and to keep your country arrive.”
