People ‘making millions’ exploiting free fridges scheme

Fridge installers are “making millions” out of a scheme that has seen hundreds of fridges dumped on businesses that don’t want or need them, a man claiming to work in the sector has told Tom Elliott.

Martin rang 3AW Drive on Friday to explain how the program works.

He said some 50 businesses were taking part in the Victorian Energy Upgrades program, which sees fridge installers issued with lucrative carbon credits for installing energy-efficient fridges.

But there are claims the system is being rorted.

“There are people making millions of dollars out of this – I have no doubt,” Martin said.
