Perth is apparently hatching a plot to steal the Boxing Day Test from Melbourne.

The Age is reporting that Perth Stadium is working behind the scenes to convince Cricket Australia the new venue should have a fixed-date Test, such as the Boxing Day or New Year’s Tests.

Neil Mitchell spoke to 6PR commentator Karl Langdon about it, and Karl had a simple message: “why not?”

“It is a world-class stadium,” he said.

“It competes on all levels with the MCG.”

But Neil said the Boxing Day Test wouldn’t be same anywhere other than the MCG.

“It shouldn’t happen. It won’t happen.”

The MCC’s deal with Cricket Australia comes to an end this summer.
