Peta Credlin’s nomination to single-sex social club sparks questions

Jacqui Felgate

Peta Credlin has been nominated to Melbourne’s female-only Alexandra club, but some are questioning if the concept of single-sex clubs are discriminatory, and archaic.

Social commentator and feminist, Eva Cox, says single-sex clubs are a little bit like “dinosaurs.”

“They provide a place where … they can all go and talk to each other because they all went to the same schools and have the same views, … they also have powerful connections into some of the men’s clubs,” she told Tom Elliott.

She also says single-sex clubs don’t necessarily operate the way they used to.

“I suppose they could just be social,” she said.
