Peter Costello says increasing tax is not the answer for Australia

Australia’s longest-serving treasurer says increasing taxes is not the answer to the nation’s financial woes.

Peter Costello joined Neil Mitchell on Thursday, covering a range of different issues.

Mr Costello, a pivotal member of the Howard Government, said some of the debate in parliament and in the media about the economy left him scratching his head.

‘You don’t get spending under control by increasing tax,’ he said on 3AW Mornings.

‘It’s just a basic principle, Neil.

‘I just hope we can get some sanity back.’
