Pharmaceutical lobby groups fight proposed changes to make codeine drugs prescription only

A decision on whether to make codeine drugs prescription-only will be put off until at least next year. 

The Herald reports three of the nation’s most powerful pharmaceutical lobby groups are fighting the proposed change. 

Research has shown the rate of Australian deaths linked to codeine more than doubled in the 9 years to 2009.
