Plague of dumped trolleys in Doncaster

A Doncaster resident has told Neil Mitchell that dumped shopping trolleys are plaguing his street.

A system was implemented a few years ago to combat the problem of stolen and abandoned trolleys, whereby shoppers had to insert coin to unlock trolleys chained together, but some supermarkets no longer require that coin.

Con Sonis told Neil that trolleys dumped within just a few kilometres of Coles and Woolworths sat there for months, accumulating rubbish.

‘They just sit there, and sit there,’ he said. ‘Just driving around within one or two kilometres there’s just dozens of them.’

Mr Sonic said he had called around to numerous shopping centres, supermarkets and the council but no one was prepared to take responsibility.

‘Nobody seems to be bothered about it really…there’s some that have been sitting around our neighbourhood for probably two months.’
