Two people have had a lucky escape after a plank of wood smashed through the windscreen of their Porsche on a Melbourne freeway.

Two people were travelling at about 80km/h in their Porsche Macan SUV on Citylink in Melbourne’s north when a piece of wood smashed through the front of the vehicle on September 20.

The frightening incident happened between Brunswick and Moreland roads at about 10am.

The damage to the car was significant and the 71-year-old driver suffered a black eye. His 70-year-old passenger wasn’t injured.

It’s been two weeks since the incident and police still don’t know where the wood came form.

Police are calling on anyone who witnessed the incident, and anyone with dashcam footage, to come forward.
