Plea to Victorian motorists this Labour Day long weekend
Police are pleading with motorists to take care on the roads today, particularly those heading home from long weekend getaways in regional Victoria, after 10 road deaths in the first 11 days of March.
The Labour Day long weekend road safety blitz began on Friday and will run until midnight tonight.
By Sunday morning, over 3000 road traffic offences had already been detected, including: 1314 speeding offences, 103 drink driving offences, 63 drug driving offences and 171 mobile phone offences.
March is historically the highest-risk month on Victoria’s roads.
A total 73 lives have been lost on Victoria’s roads since January, up from 51 at the same time last year.
