$80 billion submarine project is “dangerously off track”

Luke Grant

The $80 billion Australian defence program for 12 French built submarines is already “dangerously off track” according to a report to be launched today by Professor Hugh White at the National Press Club.

Luke Grant is joined by Gary Johnston, founder of Submarines for Australia / owner & founder of Jaycar Electronics, who commissioned the report, who says not only are we heading for an inevitable capability gap, but there was a “high risk” the project will fail.

The report, prepared by Insight Economics and supported by an expert reference group that includes four retired admirals, says that the budget jumped by 60 per cent in two years and that already two project milestones have been missed.
