Aged Care in home not in a care home

Pat Panetta

More than half of Australians say they want their loved ones taken out of residential aged care and put into at-home care, according to a new survey.

National Seniors Chief Advocate, Ian Henschke, spoke to Luke Grant on Australia Overnight about the crisis in aged care.

He says at-home care is more cost effective for the taxpayer and is better for the individual needing care.

“The Commonwealth government would be far better off if we focused our budget on this,” he said.

“If we turned the whole thing on its head, we’d not only be giving people what they want but we would actually be saving a lot of money”.
