Bee mite threatens almond industry

The almond industry is at risk ahead of pollination season, following the detection of a deadly parasite in bee hives in New South Wales.

Emergency measures have been imposed to stop the movement of bees, after Varroa mite was detected at the Port of Newcastle.

Rural reporter Emily O’Brien spoke with Hunter Valley Amateur Beekeepers Association vice president David Vial, about the impacts on the industry.
