Crackdown on tourist region’s ‘party houses’

Ross and John

The Mornington Shire is cracking down on the persistent problem of so-called “party-houses” by short-term and weekend renters.

Locals are fed up with the wild, loud parties and drinking session, and have been complaining to the council about the ongoing problem, and the lack of regulation.

There have neen 87 complaints to council in the past year.

Bev Colomb, the mayor of the shire, said there would be a number of regulations and new laws, to bring owners of properties used as party houses into line.

“They will need to register with us,” she told Ross and John.

“If they are in breach of the regulations there will be penalties.

“As an owner you’ll be called in to respond within two hours to any complaints made.”
