Decreasing Gas Emissions with Fences
New research suggests building fences around dams could be the key to reducing on-farm methane emissions by 56-percent.
Global Change Biology’s data shows dams produce up to four times more methane than natural bodies of water, because more greenhouse gases are generated when livestock enter the water, and the nutrient load increases.
Rural reporter Meg Van Lohuizen caught up with Deakin University ecologist doctor Martino Malerba about how the issue can be addressed.
