Discounts promised under sweeping reforms to private health insurance

Tom Elliott

Private health insurance customers are being promised significantly cheaper policies under the Federal Government’s plan for the biggest reform in the industry in more than 15 years.

Health Minister Greg Hunt told Neil Mitchell he is hopeful Australians would see the lowest change in premiums in a decade.

“For young people we are looking at straight out discounts for young people being defined as under 30,” he said.

“I have had guarantee from the private health insurers that they will pass through all of the savings.”

Neil Mitchell:  It potentially touches every life in Australia. Behind energy prices, I think one of the most complained about cost of living pressures, one of the most frustrating things.
